Abstract : Open-graded friction course (OGFC) is a porous mix, mainly characterized by high air void content (15 to 20
%). This study presents a laboratory evaluation on moisture susceptibility of Open Graded Friction Course (OGFC) mixture.
Open graded friction course had poor performance when conventional asphalt used as the binder. Open gradation can lead to
moisture damage and premature aging, which will increase the stripping of the mix from the roadway. This paper will
present, the use of modified binders and warm mix asphalt (WMA) technology in comparison to conventional asphalt as a
binder in OGFC mix, for use as a surface course in India. Indirect Tensile Strength test were performed both conditioned and
unconditioned sample for all binder type. It is observed that modified binder and warm mix asphalt improved the strength of
the mix and reduce the susceptibility of the mix towards moisture.
